Alternatives to laboratory studies: QSAR, expert statement, literature search

QSAR, expert statements, literature searches logo

In order to prepare a dossier (products and substances), the cost of laboratory studies (physico-chemistry, toxicology, ecotoxicology, environment, etc.) represents a significant part of the overall budget.

Staphyt Regulatory team supports you with scientific and regulatory solutions to complete your dataset, limit the number of tests and reduce your expenses.

We offer three services:

You need to

  • Reduce the costs associated with studies,
  • Identify the physico-chemical, toxicological, ecotoxicological properties and environmental fate of a substance,
  • Determine if tests are necessary to characterize the physical hazards of a product (explosive/oxidising properties, auto-ignition or self-reactivity),
  • Complete your substance dataset.

Our expertise

  • QSAR Analyses (Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship)
Our chemists, toxicologists and ecotoxicologists carry out these QSAR analyses, recognized from a regulatory point of view (REACH, SANCO / 10597/2003, …), via the software QSAR Toolbox. The QSAR analysis characterizes the physicochemical, toxicological, ecotoxicological properties and environmental fate of a substance and allows you to avoid unnecessary testing. QSAR is the approach favored by REACh, which requires vertebrate testing (mammals or fish) to be carried out only as a last resort.

  • Expert statements
Before placing a product on the market, it is necessary to characterize its physical hazards (explosive/oxidizing properties, etc.). These statements, prepared by our chemistry experts, justify, when possible, that some of these tests are not necessary on the product through the search for the available data for each component.

  • Literature searches
Our experts use official databases and / or software (EndNote) to search for reliable and relevant data on the physico-chemical, toxicological, ecotoxicological properties, environmental fate, or on the resistance of substances. In particular, we carry out mandatory literature searches for registration (or re-approval) of active plant protection substances in accordance with the requirements of European Regulation (EC) No.1107/2009 and (EC) No.283/2013.
