Disposable plastics – is the packaging for your wipes up to date?

As part of the European Green Deal and, more specifically, Directive (EU) 2019/904 on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment, the new Regulation (EU) 2020/2151 has updated the labelling rules applicable to single-use plastic products listed in Part D of the Annex to Directive (EU) 2019/904.

Drink cups, sanitary napkins and pre-wetted plastic wipes for personal and household use will therefore have to meet new labelling requirements from 3 July 2021, including the addition of the “Plastic in Product” logo for all packaging with a surface of 10 cm² or more.

With a minimum size of 1.4 cm by 2.8 cm (3.92 cm²) and a minimum of 6% of the total surface area, the logo must also be adapted to cover all the countries where the packaging is marketed: the words “PLASTIC IN PRODUCT” must therefore be translated into the official language(s) of the Member States concerned, and must be placed either directly under the logo or inside the black box, as per the example above.

It should also be noted that it is possible to apply this specific logo in the form of stickers to all packaging placed on the market before 4 July 2022.
