The Future European Fertilizer Regulation was voted by a large majority

The draft Law was passed on 29th March 2019 by a resolution of the European deputies (members of the European Parliament) with 582 votes in favour, 38 against and 7 abstentions. The next step will be the vote by the European Council in April for publication in May 2019. This regulation is expected to come into force in 2022.

As a reminder, Regulation (EC) No. 2016/0084 will cover the marketing at European level of a wide range of fertiliser products including organic and mineral fertilisers, soil amendments, growing media and biostimulants.

In connection with this draft regulation, the European Technical Committee, CEN/TC 455 “Plant Biostimulants”, was created in 2017. The work of this committee consists in developing European standards that will be used to assess the conformity of biostimulants with the future regulation and that will concern sampling, claims, microorganisms (pathogenic and non-pathogenic), other safety parameters and labeling and denomination.
