Clothianidin, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam risk towards bees confirmed

The EFSA has been asked to undertake a review of the new data relevant to the uses of these substances in the frame of risk to bees taking into account in particular, the new relevant data collected in the framework of the open call for data organized by EFSA in 2015 and any other new data from studies, research and monitoring activities.

According to EFSA evaluation published on the 28/02/2018, most uses of neonicotinoid pesticides represent a risk to wild bees and honeybees. The Authority has updated its risk assessments of three neonicotinoids (clothianidin, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam) that are currently subject to restrictions in the EU because of the threat they pose to bees.

On the SCOPAFF of 23/03/2018, Member states discussed the outcome of this analysis maybe leading to further decrease of use for these substances. This news will be updated as soon as we get the conclusions of the meeting.
