Updated soil exposure models for plant protection products

New exposure models for soil have been in development following the publication of the EFSA Guidance Document for predicting environmental concentrations in soil (EFSA, 2017). It is expected that these models will be required for new active substance approvals from 2021, though EFSA are yet to announce the exact implementation date.

These changes will have a large impact on risk assessments for soil organisms. Version 3.01 of the new PERSAM soil model has now been released and is available from the ESDAC website. Updates to the PEARL and PELMO models for higher-tier assessment are also undergoing testing and are expected to be released soon.

Staphyt Regulatory environmental fate experts have attended EFSA workshops on the development of the revised software and are ready to assist you with modelling where required.
